A wardrobe well cared for is a wardrobe that lasts. Discover considered ways to preserve the pieces you already own.

Taking the time to tend to your garments preserves what makes them special—the softness of silk, the rich tactility of cashmere.

Clothing care is an intentional act. It’s the rites, the rituals, the little detailsthat make all the difference. A lifeline for the pieces you can't live without.

1. Revive the feel of your fabrics

Pilling is an inherent part of a garment’s journey. It's a process that occurs when loose fibers rise to the fabric's surface and can happen to all kinds of textiles, even luxurious fabrics such as merino or cashmere. These small signs of wear don't mean it's time to part with your garment.

The softness returned to your favorite sweater, the character of a cardigan renewed—a simple sweep with a fabric shaver will restore your most cherished pieces.

2. Let your wardrobe breathe

Not all of the pieces in your wardrobe need to be washed after each wear. Airing your garments is a gentler alternative to washing and can help prolong the life of your clothes.

Consider the fabric and construction of the piece—T-shirts or tank tops made from synthetic fibers may be best refreshed in a washing machine, while jackets, jeans or sweaters in natural fabrics such as wool or cotton may benefit from a little time outdoors. Simply hang these pieces outside or by an open window and allow the fresh air to renew the fabric.

3. The restorative power of steam

The benefits of steaming go beyond simply releasing creases. A hush of steam is all it takes to gently lift textile fibers, allowing them to regain their natural shape and restore freshness.

For pieces that have only had light wear, consider steaming instead of washing to revive the silhouette and drape of your garment.

4. Put pressing on pause

Delicate fabrics such as silk or plush velvet call for equally delicate garment care. A gentler alternative to ironing, steaming a creased garment will lift wrinkles with ease.

For a freshly pressed finish, the Cirrus 3 iron steamer sharpens the appearance of collars, cuffs, and hems, without the need for an ironing board. Finish with a fabric spray to echo the feeling of just-washed laundry.

5. Wash by hand

Washing by hand gives your most delicate pieces the considered care they deserve. Taking the time to tend to your garments preserves what makes them special—the softness of silk, the rich tactility of cashmere. If your clothes do need to be machine washed, opt for a low spin cycle and cooler temperature for a more gentle clean.

Time spent caring for your clothes is never time wasted.

6. Tend to trouble spots

Another benefit of hand washing is that you can focus solely on the areas that need attention. Small spots or underarm stains can be gently blotted with a clean cloth, giving the rest of the fabric a break from unnecessary washing.

7. Dial down the temperature

Some textiles naturally lend themselves to machine washing, particularly larger items such as bedding and blankets. One small step you can take to minimize wear is to select a lower temperature setting and gentler spin cycle.

Our liquid laundry detergents are effective in temperatures as low as 20–30°C (68–86°F). For everyday laundry care, we recommend washing your clothes at 30°C (86°F), reserving higher temperatures of 40–60°C (104–140°F) for more durable items such as sheets and towels, or pieces that require a deeper clean.
