Why does lint and pilling appear?

You may be wondering how your clothes got pilling when, after all, you did not use them that often or thought you still took care of them. Especially wool garments and knitted garments usually form little knots but also garments of other materials such as acrylic yarn. However, some wool such as alpaca tends to pill less because the surface is less rough than ordinary wool.

Lint and pilling appear when the short fibers move and become entangled in each other. The result is small balls that forms on the surface of the fabric. Sometimes you may also notice that there are more bumps where something has been rubbed against the fabric, such as a handbag against the coat.
