When properly cared for, cashmere garments can endure for years thanks to the yarn’s natural durability and timeless appeal.
Softness, ply count, and fiber length are key considerations when adding new cashmere pieces to your wardrobe. Higher-quality garments are made from fine, long-staple fibers that measure from around 36–40mm, making them less prone to breakage and pilling. 2-ply cashmere creates a lighter knit that lends itself to layering, while pieces up to 12-ply result in a chunky garment with a weightier drape.
Remember that not all cashmere is created equal—an unexpectedly low price can often reflect compromises in quality and construction.
Your cashmere pieces don't need to be washed after every wear. Giving them time to air out between uses will help maintain their softness, shape, and natural freshness.
When the time comes to wash your pieces, treat cashmere with special care. Wash them by hand or select the wool cycle on your washing machine, always at a temperature of 30°C or below. A gentle spin setting of no more than 800RPM removes excess water while minimizing wear on the fibers. The rhythm of daily life—a sleeve nestled inside a coat, a scarf wrapped around a collar—can cause fibers to gather into pills, while lint and dust settle into the surface of the garment. A gentle sweep with a fabric shaver smooths outpilling, while a lint brush lifts away dustand debris, revealing the yarn’s naturalsoftness and texture.
In the warmer months, carefully fold your cashmere pieces and store them in a drawer rather than hanging to preserve the natural silhouette and drape of the knit. Add moth balls or mist your garments with a light cedar oil spray to help protect the delicate fibers from pests.
